Math Baskets Self-pacing Computation Learning Center
by Ellen Lund

The Math Baskets Program is a self-paced individualized computation program for students working on basic adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing. Designed to be used at a math center, each of the 23 "baskets" (or levels) contains games and activities designed to give the student exciting experiences with one number family. Included are activities to meet the needs of a variety of learning styles. Game formats are similar from one level to another, providing consistency and ease of use. All activities are marked with the level numbers so students can maintain them easily.

Contents of each basket include:

  • Minibook manipulative recording booklet
  • Hiding game (group circle game for 2-6 players)
  • Hen and Chicks (sorting game for 1-2 players)
  • Around the USA (board game for 2 players)
  • TicTac Toe (board game for 2 players)
  • Math Wheels (for 1 or 2 players)
  • Flash Cards (1 or more players)
  • New Facts List

The Math Baskets Program is a perfect companion for the constructivist math approach, and provides a self-pacing sequence for the computation strand. Lamination is required on some games. COVER-UP GAMES
    by Ellen Lund

For owners of the Math Baskets Program, this supplement has a cover-up game for each basket. Players take turns covering or marking three connecting numbers that make a number sentence. The three numbers must be in boxes that are sharing one side. The person who covers the most numbers is the winner. If your students would like a challenge, they may try to find a way to cover all the numbers to make a blackout. It is possible!
